Museum

By the order of Defense Secretary of the USSR of 21 July 1983, the Museum of Civil Defence of the USSR was founded, which, on 20 April 1994 was transformed into the Central Museum of the Ministry of Civil Defence, Emergencies and Disaster Relief of the Russian Federation.

EMERCOM of Russia Central Museum is an educational, research-and-development State institution.

It conducts collection, research, storage and exhibiting of the monuments of national history of Local Air Defence, CD, RUERS and EMERCOM of Russia.

The Central Museum is the Apex Institution and Scientific-Methodological Center in relation to the other museums (museum establishment) in the system EMERCOM of Russia.

The Head of the Museum is Dronova Galina Vladimirovna

 

At present the EMERCOM of Russia Central Museum owns an exposition which is presented in 4 rooms and a cinema auditorium.

The First Hall

LOCAL AIR DEFENCE OF THE USSR

(1932 – 1961)

The First Hall exposition highlights the beginning of the 30s of the last century, the period of foundation of Local Air Defence, the heroic years of the Great Patriotic War, post-war period of the development of Local Air Defence of the USSR.

Among various exponents there are wartime banners of the Local Air Defence units and subdivisions, the map of the enemy aircraft attacks on Moscow with the notification of places of bomb impacts, the telephone set, which was used 141 times for air raid alert of the citizens of the capital, numerous photographs and precious halidoms of the Great Patriotic War.

 

CIVIL DEFENCE OF THE USSR

(1961 – 1991)

Here, in the first hall there are also exhibits, devoted to the foundation, functioning and development of the Civil Defence of the Soviet Union.

By means of exposition the unique system of federal defence activities is shown here, which were in advance conducted for the protection of the population and national economy of the country from the nuclear missile, chemical and bacteriological warfare weapon, for conducting rescue and urgent emergency rehabilitation works in the center of contamination, inundation areas.

26 April 1986, the accident at the Chernobyl Atomic Electric Power Station occurred. The exposition presents numerous details of the tragedy, rare pictures, documents and personal items of the disaster liquidators.

 

 

The Second Hall

THE MODERN HISTORY OF THE EMERGENCY SERVICE IN RUSSIA

 

 

The Second Hall portrays the foundation and everyday work of EMERCOM of Russia. Here, the day-to-day life and activity of all the regional centers and subdivisions are presented, as well as all the educational institutions of the Ministry. The central museum cases are devoted to the awards system. The topic of international cooperation and humanitarian aid operations is also highlighted here.

 

 

The Third Hall

TECHNOLOGICAL DISASTERS

 

 

The Hall exposition is devoted to the history of technological disasters, accident-management works, the work of rescuers in emergency situations in mechanical, railroad, aircraft and water transport, on crude oil and fuel lines.

 

The Fourth Hall

NATURAL DISASTERS

 

 

The information about the natural emergency situations, the dog service EMERCOM of Russia activity, the latest technology examples, used in disaster clean-up operations are presented in this Hall. Recently, the new expositions have been created: “Junior Rescuers EMERCOM of Russia” and “All-Russian center of monitoring and forecasting emergencies of natural and technogenic character (Center "Antistikhiya").

 

CINEMA AUDITORIUM

As a rule, all the excursions are over in the cinema auditorium, where the visitors are demonstrated videofilms about the history EMERCOM of Russia, humanitarian aid activities and search-and-rescue operations. The movie- and slide-watching is accompanied by the lectures of the guides, which helps to understand the importance of everyday difficult and sometimes dangerous work of Russian rescuers and firemen.

EMERCOM of Russia Central Museum participates actively in various exhibitions and at the same time arranges many of them. Recently, Moscovites and the guests of the capital could see the following exhibitions:

- “The Halidom of the military and labour glory EMERCOM of Russia”;

- Topical exhibition “Local Air Defence during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945”;

- Topical exhibition “From Local Air Defence-CD to EMERCOM of Russia”;

- Topical exhibition “The Accident at the Chernobyl Atomic Electric Power Station”;

- “The Awards System EMERCOM of Russia”;

- Topical exhibition “Russian Unified Emergency Rescue Service (RUERS)”;

- “Regional Centers EMERCOM of Russia”;

- “The machinery at EMERCOM of Russia service”;

- “Population training in the field of civil defence and protection in emergency”.

Not only the secondary school- and technical school-students come to acquaint with the history of the State Rescue Service, but the University students, students of the Training Civil Defence and Emergency Centers, military men of subdivisions and units, workers and employees from different regions of our country are interested in it.
